YWCA Richmond announces 2019 class of Outstanding Women Awards honorees

YWCA Richmond has announced its 39th class of Outstanding Women Awards honorees – eight women who are leaders in the community in eight different categories. The group will be honored at a luncheon Apr. 26 at the Richmond Marriott.
The honorees are:
• Business – Jane Henderson, founder of Virginia Community Capital, board member and past president of Community Development Bankers Association, former board chair of Community Housing Partners Corporation and board member of Community Development Trust.
• Education – Susan Gooden, interim dean for VCU’s Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs, founder of the Wilder Graduate Scholars Program, former executive director of the Grace Harris Leadership Institute at VCU, past president of the American Society for Public Administration.
• Health & Science – Sally Graham, founder and executive director of Goochland Cares, member of the Goochland Rotary, previous board member on the UVA School of Nursing Advisory Board.
• Human Relations &/or Faith in Action – Greta Harris, president, CEO of Better Housing Coalition, named Virginia Tech Black Alumni Association’s 2016 philanthropist of the year and current Board of Visitors member, a member of Leadership Metro Richmond’s Class of 1995, and SisterFund co-founder.
• Law &/or Government – Susan Clarke Schaar, clerk of The Senate of Virginia with over 45 years of leadership, chief administrative officer of the Senate, former staff chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures, recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award L. D. Wilder School of Govt. & Public Affairs.
• Media & Marketing – Katherine Wintsch, founder, CEO of The Mom Complex, former SVP at The Martin Agency, Business Insiders “30 Most Powerful Women in Advertising,” 2015 Richmond Christmas Mother, and author of new empowerment book for women titled, Slay Like a Mother (March 2019).
• Nonprofit Management – Christy Coleman, CEO of the American Civil War Center, named Times Magazine “31 People Who are Changing the South,” former director of Historic Programs and Colonial Williamsburg.
• Volunteerism – Susan Adolf, retired VP of Saxon Shoes, chaired the Weinstein JCC 50th Anniversary celebration, past chair of the Jewish Federations Women's Campaign, current chair of the Student Division of JCFR enlightening students about Tzedakah, member of auxiliary board of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
"The Outstanding Women Awards embodies YWCA’s commitment to engage, develop and honor women leaders whose work helps make our community stronger,” said Linda S. Tissiere, YWCA Richmond’s chief executive officer. “Each of these women are being recognized for their significant achievement in leadership and their important impact on our region's health and vitality.”
The 2019 Outstanding Women Awards honorees were selected based on their impact on the Greater Richmond community, their leadership skills, a high level of personal and professional achievement and commitment to the YWCA Richmond’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
The awards luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Apr. 26 at the Richmond Marriott. Individual luncheon tickets are available for $75.
