Table of Contents

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Secretary of Labor Bryan Slater will attend the Henrico Workforce & Career Development (CTE) Life Ready Expo at Hermitage High School held Sept. 24 from 6 p.m to 8 p.m.

Youngkin and Slater are set to visit the event, which allows Henrico students grades 6-12 and their families to meet with different employers, around 7:30 p.m. This year will feature 129 different businesses from 17 different career clusters, including construction, engineering, business management, health sciences, and more.

Students and their families will get the opportunity to talk to employers about training programs, pay and benefits, and learn about different career pathways at the event. Attendees can also tour the newly-built Advanced Career Education (ACE) Center at Hermitage and talk with current ACE Center seniors about their coursework and future career plans.

Last year’s Career Expo saw hundreds of students and families pack the hallways of Hermitage High to talk with 150 different businesses. Students had a wide variety of career interests, with some interested in the trades, others looking into nursing or education positions, and some interested in joining the military.

This year, the Henrico Citizen will be tabling at the expo, offering students interested in journalism the opportunity to learn about how to get involved with the Citizen and with local news in their community, as well as learn about different possible pathways into a journalism career.
