Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin this week announced the expansion of the statewide "It Only Takes One" campaign to help combat the ongoing fentanyl crisis.

The initiative will see the First Lady of Virginia, Suzanne Youngkin, travel to rural communities across the commonwealth to spread fentanyl awareness and speak with families affected by the issue.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office said that since its January launch in Roanoke, the It Only Takes One campaign already made parents 55% more likely to discuss the dangers of fentanyl with their children, and has resulted in an increased awareness of fentanyl by 12%. The expansion of the campaign will include the launch of a new Fentanyl Families Ambassador Program, which will empower families affected by fentanyl to share their stories and advocate in their communities.

“We are making real progress in the fight against fentanyl,” said Gov. Youngkin. “Through stronger policies, enhanced resources in schools, and expanded recovery programs, we are taking critical steps to protect our communities. With the statewide expansion of It Only Takes One and new Fentanyl Families Ambassador Program, we’re ensuring that families have the tools they need to amplify their stories and save lives across Virginia.”
