U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA-First District) has been named a “Hero of Main Street” by the National Retail Federation for his work supporting small businesses.

The award, presented by NRF Executive Vice President of Government Relations David French, was given to Wittman for his legislative action and leadership in advocating for small businesses and retailers throughout Virginia and the nation, according to the organization.

“Virginia’s First District is home to thousands of small businesses and retailers, and I’m proud to support them through my work in Congress,” Wittman said.

Wittman has sponsored legislation to permanently extend tax deductions for small and family-owned businesses and to require federal agencies to take into account the economic impacts of certain rulemaking on small businesses. He also voted in favor of legislation authorizing the “Boots to Business Program,” which provides entrepreneurship training to veterans and active duty members of the military.

“The retail industry directly impacts every congressional district in the United States, providing goods, services and American jobs,” said French.
