Earlier this month, U.S. Congressman Rob Wittman (R-1st District) helped commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion by visiting Normandy, France to honor veterans who died during the operation.

Wittman, whose district includes Henrico's western half, was part of a bipartisan congressional delegation that took part in observance of the anniversary with veterans, active duty service members, and foreign dignitaries. He visited the gravesites of several Virginians who died during the invasion.

“Eighty years ago, thousands of Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy and changed the course of history,” Wittman said. “While paying our respects in Normandy, we remembered their courage and the sacrifices they made for the betterment of mankind.”
