Wings for Autism provides practice for special passengers

Table of Contents

Wings for Autism, an airport rehearsal program specifically designed for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families, is coming to Richmond International Airport Nov. 18.

The program at RIC, a partnership between Autism Society Central Virginia and Delta Air Lines, will provide individuals and families the chance to experience the process of taking a flight – benefiting not only the participants,  but also the airport, airline and TSA personnel who learn how to better accommodate passengers of all abilities.

During a Wings for Autism Event, participants check in at the airline ticket counter to receive boarding passes, pass through the TSA security checkpoint, wait in the boarding area, board an aircraft (that does not take off), and enjoy a post-event reception.
