Windsor Club dissolves, donates money to Henrico Schools

Table of Contents

A 104-year-old Eastern Henrico organization is dissolving but leaving a lasting legacy as it does.

The Windsor Club of Elko was formed in November 1916 by about 100 Danish and Norweigan Americans in the Eastern Henrico region. The club built the Elko Community House eight years later and operated it for nearly 100 years until Henrico County acquired it and transformed it into a neighborhood community center with outdoor recreational facilities.

Now the club's members have voted to dissolve and donate the $50,000 left in its account to the Henrico County Vocational-Technical Education Foundation. The money will be used to provide scholarships for students who choose to pursue a technical career path.

Henrico's Board of Supervisors will formally recognize and receive the gift at its Jan. 28 meeting.
