The initiative was created in partnership with DRIVE SMART Virginia and the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office and is part of a broader effort to reduce the number of car accidents involving drivers under the influence.

The race weekend next month will be deemed NASCAR Weekend at Richmond Raceway presented by Who's Your Driver.

“We’re super appreciative to have Who’s Your Driver as the presenting partner of our summer race weekend," Richmond Raceway President Lori Collier Waran said. "As we appreciate watching the best drivers in the world take on our historic racetrack under the lights, we also appreciate the designated drivers responsible for getting all our race fans in the commonwealth home safe and sound.”

According to DRIVE SMART Virginia, 293 people in Virginia died last year in crashes involving drivers who had been drinking, and 335 people were killed when they were not wearing seatbelts. The Who’s Your Driver campaign encourages fans to take precautions such as wearing a seat belt, not driving under the influence, and planning ahead for a safe and sober ride home.

“The fan experience at Richmond Raceway is unique and special,” said Kristin Pettway, executive director of DRIVE SMART Virginia. “It is the perfect opportunity for us to engage with racing fans and remind them the importance of seat belts and planning ahead for a safe and sober ride from the track. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure fans return home safely to their families after the excitement of the race weekend.”
