New administrative appointments were approved at last week’s Henrico County School Board meeting, comprising three new hires and three promotions.

Here's a look at who's coming into new roles:

Kathryn Smith was promoted to director of exceptional education, effective July 1. She is transitioning from her role as the assistant director of exceptional education for HCPS, which she has held since January of 2018.  Smith previously worked at Deep Run High School as an associate principal, an assistant principal and social studies teacher. She’s endorsed in administration and supervision, government, history and social sciences and special education-general curriculum, according to HCPS.

Adrienne Harris will be the newest assistant principal at Glen Allen High School starting July 1. She is coming from Petersburg High School, where she works as an assistant principal. Harris has taught high school English for Richmond Public Schools and Chesterfield County Public Schools. She’s enrolled at Liberty University working toward her doctorate in curriculum and instruction.

Corbin Franklin will serve as an associate principal at Rivers Edge Elementary School, effective Aug. 9, after serving as Colonial Trail Elementary School’s resource teacher since 2018. Franklin’s career in education began in Richmond County in northeast Virginia, where she worked as a sixth grade teacher and then as the gifted education coordinator.

Taleesa Meeks was promoted from a social studies teacher at Wilder Middle School to an assistant principal at Elko Middle School. During her five years at Wilder Middle, Meeks worked as grade level leader, department chair and administrative aide. Meeks is a graduate of the HCPS Aspiring Leader Academy.

Amy Johnson was re-hired by HCPS as the student support and wellness specialist. She is coming from a local nonprofit, Greater Richmond SCAN, which works to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect. Johnson previously worked for HCPS as a school counselor.

Wendy Reyes was promoted to human resources specialist for ADA, FMLA, and leave administration, effective July 1. She currently serves as personnel specialist for Colonial Heights Public Schools and previously worked as a human resources assistant with HCPS.
