Westminster Canterbury Richmond reported Tuesday morning that a resident has been diagnosed with COVID-19.  The person becomes the second in Henrico diagnosed with the virus. The person is in the hospital after returning from travel to Florida. WCR's northern Henrico campus has been locked down since March 11, after the first local case was reported.

Public health officials are now on the campus working with the community's healthcare staff, and Virginia Department of Health officials are working to determine who might have had contact with the resident. A number of healthcare staff members are at home in self-quarantine.

WCR officials began tracking the travel plans of residents, staff and their families March 4 in order to monitor those traveling to affected areas.

Once the now-hospitalized resident was diagnosed with COVID-19, the community required all residents to remain in their apartments. Staff members are assisting residents with anything they need, according to officials.

“We initiated aggressive and proactive efforts in tracking the travel of our residents and employees as well as implemented proactive screening procedures, which we believe helped us manage this case as effectively as possible,” said John Burns, president and CEO of the facility.
