West End Islamic Center receives VDEM security grant

The West End Islamic Center, located on Shady Grove Road in Glen Allen, is one of several nonprofits across Virginia to receive federal funds through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management recently announced recipients of the grants, which provide funding support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to eligible nonprofit organizations.
The West End Islamic Center grant of $150,000 is part of a total award of more than $5.1 million in Fiscal Year 2023 funds, representing a 73 percent increase in funding over last fiscal year.
VDEM received 90 project applications for both statewide and Hampton Roads projects with requests totaling just over $15 million. The competitive applications are reviewed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and they determine the awarded projects.
