All proceeds benefit the St. Jean Baptiste community in Dos Palais, Haiti. The sale is free to attend and open to the public. Monetary donations are accepted also. The 63rd Annual Armenian Food Festival returns to St. James Armenian Church Sept. 8-9 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The family-friendly festival features food lovingly prepared by church members including chicken shish kabobs, cheese boreg, Armenian meat pies, stuffed grape leaves, pastries, the original Hye Burger, and more. There also will be Armenian beer and wine and traditional music and dancing. Admission is free. The church is located at 834 Pepper Avenue, at the corner of Pepper and Patterson avenues. The "Second Saturdays" summer concert series at Dorey Park Farmers Market will conclude Sept. 9 with Legacy Band 2. The concert will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the market at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road in Varina. Gates open at 6 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen, will kick off its 22nd season with Kate McDonnell on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. In 2020, McDonnell released her fifth album, “Ballad of a Bad Girl,” a collection of 11 songs, including original pieces and covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Richard Thompson. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; teens are admitted at half price and children 12 and under are free. Desirée Roots and her jazz trio will perform Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen’s new Center Field outdoor stage. Roots, an award-winning singer and actress, is known for her powerful yet controlled voice and impressive 3.5 octave range. She performs nearly every genre including gospel, classical and opera, but jazz has made her one of the region’s most sought-after vocalists. Tickets are $20 and seating is general admission.
