Henrico County’s volunteer rescue squads will face off in a kickball tournament hosted by the Henrico Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Deep Run High School. The tournament offers community members a chance to meet others and support their local squads. Admission is $5 on the day of the event, and community members can show their support for the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Henrico Division of Fire by purchasing a Pitch It and Kick It shirt in their team’s color at the game. All food and ticket profits will benefit the Henrico squads. In addition, there will be a tournament break during which families and their kids can go onto the field to kick the ball around. The 2nd Annual Kickin’ it in the Community event will take place Saturday, Aug. 12 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreational Center at 1440 North Laburnum Avenue. The event is an effort to unite the community with entertainment and resources in a safe environment. The main event of the day is a kickball tournament, where nine teams will face off – including squads from the Henrico Sheriff’s Office and the Henrico Division of Police. The event also will feature food (Trinidad food, Caribbean food, soul food, water ice, funnel fries and more) and merchandise vendors, music by DJ Ron C, a gaming truck, free school supplies, free haircuts, a splash pad, arts and crafts, free goodie bags, and more. Local business such as Kings dominion, Mending Fences, GRTC and Costco will provide their services for job placement and give resources. The Dorey Park Farmers Market will continue its evening concert series featuring local RVA bands. The Second Saturdays series will take place at the market every second Saturday of the month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jacob Paul Allen will be the performer on Aug. 12. Gates open at 6 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket. Food, beer and other drinks will be available for purchase (no outside alcohol is permitted). Admission is free. The Association, one of the most successful bands to come out of the 1960s, will perform at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Road. They have received a Golden Globe nomination, seven Grammy nominations, and RIAA certifications for six gold and three platinum records.
