Residents can view Mountainfilm at an outdoor showing April 7 at 8 p.m. at Deep Run Park and on April 8 at 7 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs. Mountainfilm is an organization and festival of films about people, stories and ideas that celebrate the indomitable spirit. Admission to both showings is free. The Gallery at UNOS will present “Living it Forward,” an art exhibition celebrating the surpassing of one million transplants and National Donate Life Month. An opening reception for the exhibition will take place Friday, April 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Crossroads Art Center in Henrico. April is National Donate Life Month, a month dedicated to bringing awareness to the critical importance of organ donation, celebrating the gift of life, and honoring all organ donors. In collaboration with the Crossroads Art Center, UNOS presents 45+ works by artists inspired by the historic milestone of reaching one million transplants in 2022 as well as the themes of renewal, life, and hope. Award-winning blues, soul and Americana singer Shemekia Copeland will perform at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Road, on Friday, April 7 at 8 p.m. Copeland is the winner of the 2021 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year. On her new Alligator album, Done Come Too Far, Copeland continues the story she began telling on 2018’s America’s Child and 2020’s Grammy-nominated Uncivil War, reflecting her vision of America’s past, present and future. The Kidz Comic Con Book Festival will take place Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at L & L Events, 5162 Nine Mile Road. There will be craft tables, a lip sync battle, food trucks, folk tales and storytelling, face painting, a bouncy house, Africa drummers and baby dancers, and more.
