The GreenSpring American Youth Harp Ensemble will present “Making Spirits Bright!” Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 2333 Hilliard Road. A favorite Richmond holiday tradition, this Grammy-considered ensemble will enthrall concert-goers with their performance of beloved holiday classics. The American Youth Harp Ensemble, part of GreenSpring International Academy of Music, works in partnership with area non-profits to promote awareness and raise funds in support of local charities. The proceeds from this concert will benefit Sound Experiences, a music education program for underserved youth. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $5 for children. The Varina Ruritan Club will present the Varina Big Toy Christmas Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. This longstanding holiday tradition begins at the River Bend Estates subdivision and travels to Osborne Landing Park. The grand marshal will be Henrico Christmas Mother Maria Bagley. Amy Ladd will provide entertainment. Henrico County will host Santa Paws on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Short Pump Park. Pets can have their pictures taken with Santa while humans enjoy a vendor fair, family-friendly activities, a food truck and more. Admission is free. West Broad Village will host its annual tree lighting on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. In addition to the illumination, the event will feature photos with Santa, live music, games, s’mores and specialty beverages. Virginia Pride and community partners will host Pride Rainbow Roll on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Roller Dome, 4902 Williamsburg Road in Sandston. This is an all-ages and sober event. Admission is $10 at the door and includes roller skate rental. A portion of the proceeds benefits Virginia Pride. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and receive half off admission.
