The Junior League of Richmond will present its 17th Annual Touch a Truck event on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Richmond Raceway. This interactive event allows children to see, touch and safely explore their favorite big trucks and heavy machinery, as well as to meet the personnel who protect, serve and build the Richmond community. The event also will feature crafts, area mascots, special performances, food trucks, face painting, and games. General admission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is $10 per ticket or $32 for a family four-pack. VIP admission, which starts an hour earlier at 9 a.m., is $15 per ticket or $52 for a family four-pack. Children under age one are admitted free. Only individual tickets are for sale at the gate on the day of the event. Proceeds benefit JLR and its community programs. The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Richmond (DSAGR) will celebrate the 16th anniversary of its signature fundraiser, the Step UP for Down Syndrome 5K & Family Festival, on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road. DSAGR’s annual fall event features a 5K run/walk and a free family festival open to the public that celebrates the abilities and accomplishments of children, teens, and adults with Down syndrome. Lakeside Farmers Market will host its Local Maker’s Market: Spooky Edition on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come in costume, bring the kids for trick or treating, grab lunch, and shop for handmade items including fall favorites like local apple butter, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice candles, and more. Singer-songwriter and ventriloquist Chris Campbell will perform a family-friendly show featuring puppets and live music at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. Campbell has released two CDs for children and developed a loyal fan base with his interactive family shows and fun characters for kids.
