Dorey Park Farmers Market will celebrate its opening day and co-host the Celebrate Varina event with the Varina Ruritans on Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at 2999 Darbytown Road in Varina. Along with new and returning Henrico farmers and local produce, there will be live music, community yoga, children’s activities, and vendors. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has designated June 3-5 as a Free Fishing Weekend where residents can fish most Virginia waters without a fishing license. Special activities will take place Saturday, June 4 at two Henrico parks. At Dorey Park from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., DWR staff and volunteers will be on site with rods and reels, terminal tackle and bait and will instruct visitors on how to fish. At Three Lakes Park from 9 a.m. to noon, Bass Nation of Virginia will provide poles and angler assistance with fishing, casting, baiting hooks and tying on bait. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride month with a special youth celebration on Sunday, June 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. SPARC’s Youth Ensemble and Touring Ensemble will perform as well as local drag queens. Youth community partners like He She Ze and We and Side by Side also will be onsite with resources and information. Admission is $17 for adults, $8 for youth and free for Garden members.
