CharacterWorks will present "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" at The Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen at 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 23 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 24. Based on the classic novel, this family-friendly musical is about a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. The Richmond Home Show, presented by Herman W. Allen Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, will take place at the Richmond Raceway Complex Oct. 22-24, featuring an array of local home improvement, landscaping, and gardening experts all under one roof. 3 Penny Theatre will present “Sherlock Holmes,” a new play that features two adventures, “The Speckled Band” and “The Final Problem.” Professional actor and master storyteller Ray Carver will bring Holmes, Watson, Moriarty and all the other characters to life in this one-person performance. Performances are at 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 23 and at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. “Sherlock Holmes” will be presented in cabaret seating with socially distanced tables. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will celebrate fall with a two-day Harvest Fest Oct. 23-24, featuring live music, food, and adult beverages, plus family-friendly activities. All activities are included with regular Garden admission; food will be available for purchase. Harvest Fest will begin at 9 a.m. both days and continue until 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Saturday’s music will include the Ken Kellner Trio, performing in the Cochrane Rose Garden from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the regional Roots Rock band Hazeltone performing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. outside at Bloemendaal House. On Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Ken Kellner Trio will again perform in the Cochrane Rose Garden and Gypsy Jazz Duo will perform outside at Bloemendaal House. Family activities will take place both days from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will include building fairy houses, scary story time, drop-in gardening, and a pumpkin-carving artist.
