CharacterWorks Theatre will present the family-friendly musical “Annie” at 7 p.m. Feb. 18, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 19, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City, little orphan Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a NYC orphanage that is run by the embittered, cruel Miss Hannigan. In the end, she finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. Masks are optional in the theater but required in the lobby and other common spaces. Tickets are $16. The show continues next weekend, Feb. 25-27. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present celloist David Finckel, pianist Wu Han and violinist Philip Setzer at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in Camp Concert Hall. They will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven and Dvorak. Tickets are $35 for adults, $10 for youth/non-UR students, and free for UR students. For details, visit modlin.richmond.edu.


The Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs will show “Respect” (PG-13) at 7 p.m. Feb. 18, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 19 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 20. “Respect” follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career, from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to international stardom. Henrico Recreation and Parks will present “History in Focus: The Ragged Road of Reconstruction” at Virginia Randolph Museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours will be offered every half hour and will discuss public schooling after the Civil War ended in 1865. All ages are invited to participate in The Great Backyard Bird Count at Twin Hickory Library on Feb. 19. Meet at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. to get a preview and then head out onto the library’s lawn to scout and count birds. Bring binoculars, somewhere to sit and dress for the weather.
