Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, will hold its January Open House + Artist Reception on Friday, Jan. 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Featured exhibits include "Love," the gallery member exhibition theme; a 24-year retrospective of photos and design for Richmond Triangle Players by John MacLellan; and the popular juried all-media show. There also will be a live drum performance by Babs Mohammed, who will talk about the Takia dance or Naabewu. The Takia dance originated in West Africa in the northern part of Ghana, Tamale. Experience the prehistoric age and encounter your favorite dinosaurs up close at Dinosaur Adventure at the Richmond Raceway Complex from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 18 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 19. Dinosaur Adventure is a one-of-a-kind exhibit featuring realistic, life-sized dinosaurs that come to life with life-like movement and roars. Activities include fossil searches, Jurassic scooters, themed obstacle courses, bounce houses, dinosaur rides, a baby dinosaur meet-and-greet, face painting, and more. Greenberg's Great Train & Toy Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 18-19 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. The show features thousands of trains and collectible toys from over 50 exhibitors from across the country. There will be model train displays, free workshops and demonstrations, a free test track to run your trains, and more. The largest and longest-running train and toy show in the northeast, Greenberg's has been running train shows since 1976. Admission at the door is $12 on Saturday (ticket good for both days) and $11 on Sunday for adults and free for children 11 and under. Tickets purchased online are $1 cheaper. Parking is free. Brickwall Jackson, a Virginia Americana/outlaw country band, will perform at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Road, on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. Brickwall Jackson released their fourth album, Big Orange Guitar, in March 2024.
