Students from the Central Virginia Dance Academy will present "The Nutcracker" at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 21-22 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. This classic holiday tale about a little girl named Clara and her nutcracker will be brought to life on stage by talented dancers with enchanting music. The story takes place on Christmas Eve and continues through Clara’s magical dream of mice, snowflakes, dancing flowers, and sugar plum fairies. Tickets are $21. The Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden continues this weekend from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day. This holiday tradition featuring millions of lights was voted one of the Best Botanical Garden Holiday Lights in the U.S. by USA Today in 2023. There will be model trains in the Kelly Education Center, a warming fire in the Children's Garden, a fairy village in the Lora M. Robins Library, and other exhibits. Hot chocolate, s'mores and other beverages and treats will be available for purchase at the Carriage House. This year's theme is "Homes & Habitats: A Celebration of Connection." Tickets are $12 to $22 for nonmembers and $8 to $12 for Garden members. GardenFest continues daily through Jan. 5 but is closed Dec. 24-25. Click here for details or call (804) 262-9887.

The Concert Ballet of Virginia will present its 48th annual production of "The Nutcracker" at J.R. Tucker High School Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 2:30 p.m. This classic holiday tale about a little girl named Clara and her nutcracker will be brought to life on stage by 250 talented dancers with enchanting music. The story takes place on Christmas Eve and continues through Clara’s magical dream of mice, snowflakes, dancing flowers, and sugar plum fairies. The show is two-hours long with a 20-minute intermission. Concessions will be available for purchase. Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for seniors 55+, children ages 1-10 and military personnel.
