Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, will unveil new exhibitions at its November 2024 Open House + Artist Reception on Friday, Nov. 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The new exhibits include "McMasterpieces" by the Metropolitan Richmond Artists Association (MRAA) and the popular Juried All Media show themed "Feast." MRAA is a not-for-profit professional association whose purpose is to promote and encourage the creation of all forms of the visual arts and to foster information sharing through group sponsored workshops, programs, and art exhibitions. "McMasterpieces" benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities in Richmond. The event also will include drinks, food and music. The exhibitions will be on display through Jan. 5. Admission is free. The Henrico Theatre Company will present "Plaid Tidings" at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen at 7 p.m. Nov. 15-16 and at 3 p.m. Nov. 17. In this musical comedy by Stuart Ross, the legendary Plaids come back to Earth to spread joy with the greatest holiday hits of the ages, after the heavenly Rosemary Clooney lets them know they're needed to put a little harmony into a discordant world. The 31st annual Great American Indian Exposition Pow-Wow and Show will take place at Richmond Raceway from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 16-17. A parade of nations/grand entry will be held each day at noon with many tribes and nations represented, including Haliwa-Saponi, Pamunkey, Piscataway, Chickahominy, Rappahannock, Cherokee, Sioux, Iroquois, Mattaponi, Nansemond, Choctaw and Navajo. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with and buy from arts and crafts vendors/demonstrators from across the US; items for sale include turquoise jewelry, moccasins, beadwork, rugs, books, paintings and more. There also will be Native American and Aztec dancers, music, face painting, classes, competitions and food, such as buffalo stew, Indian tacos and buffalo burgers (American fare will be available as well). Grammy and Emmy Award-winning musician Alison Brown will perform at The Tin Pan on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. A female pioneer in acoustic music, Brown is one of today's most innovative five-string banjo players. She is a frequent collaborator with actor/comedian/banjo player Steve Martin and is the co-founder of Nashville-based Compass Records Group, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. Her new release, On Banjo, features an eclectic cast of collaborators including Steve Martin, Kronos Quartet, Sharon Isbin, Anat Cohen, Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan and members of the Alison Brown Quintet.
