The Henrico Police Acoustic Blue Band will perform a free concert for the community on Friday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre. Tickets are available online or at the door. For details, call 652-1460 or email henricotheatre@henrico.us.


Ages six and older are invited to Belmont Recreation Center on Jan. 28 for Friday Night Fun. Enjoy an evening of friendly competition in the game room with video games, foosball, air hockey and more. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will offer the workshop “Planning and Planting a Cutting Garden” on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. There is a growing interest in cutting gardens because many people are concerned about the carbon footprint of commercially produced flowers or they’re trying to save money. Lewis Ginter horticulturist Laurie McMinn will discuss how to plan and design a cutting garden that is attractive, colorful, fragrant and useful. Cost is $42 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Henrico Recreation and Parks will present “History of Glen Allen” on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Meadow Farm Parsons Community Center from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The history of Glen Allen is tied tightly to the road that traverses the center of it: Mountain Road. Hear about some of the events that took place along the road, the people that have traveled it, and get an overview of some of the sites (and sights) that has shaped Glen Allen to be what it is today.
