CharacterWorks, a faith-based after-school theater program, will present “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 14-15 and at 2 p.m. June 16 at the Lora M. Robins Theatre at Steward School, 11600 Gayton Road. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Disney film, the Broadway adaptation of “Mary Poppins” received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces the audience to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. The Chamberlayne Actors Theatre, or CAT, will present “Keep on Laughing” at 8 p.m. June 14-15 and at 2:30 p.m. June 16 at HATTheatre, 1124 Westbriar Drive in Henrico’s West End. The ladies of last year’s show, “Exit Laughing,” are back in this new production. Connie’s daughter, Rachel, has married her 28-year-old stripper boyfriend, Bobby, and they are expecting twins. Connie, Leona and Millie have been touring the world and having the time of their lives, returning to tell hysterical stories of their adventures. Henrico County will hold its fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration at Dorey Park on Saturday, June 15 at 4 p.m. The event will include a vendor fair of Black-owned businesses, a kids’ zone, food trucks, special exhibitions, and a fireworks finale at 9:45 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by community groups, the Hermitage HS Drumline, Legacy Band, Art of Noise RVA, and more. Claire’s Antiques and Odd Balls Collectibles, 7580 West Broad Street, will celebrate Halloween in summer during their Summerween Family Fun Weekend on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on June 16 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be 100 indoor vendors selling a variety of treasures including antiques, collectibles, furniture, home decor, jewelry, glassware, vintage toys, comic books, Halloween items and more. Additional vendors will be outdoors on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store will be decorated for Halloween with Halloween music playing and trick-or-treating for kids and pets, who are encouraged to dress up. In celebration of Pride Month, Henrico Recreation and Parks will present the program “Victorian Flower Language and the LGBTQ+ Community” on Saturday, June 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadow Farm’s Parsons Community Center. Courting or dating in the Victorian Era was very different from dating now. Flowers of different types and colors were frequently used to convey the nature of romantic intentions by a suitor or their intended. The same gender loving men and women of the era adapted their own usages of flowers to subtly convey their own romantic interests.
