River City Community Players will present “Collected Stories” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Road. Donald Margulies’ “Collected Stories” exposes the conflict between an established short-story writer and her adoring fan who becomes a protégé, disciple, colleague and friend – and eventually a threatening rival. Admission to the first two performances (7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24) are pay-what-you-can. Reservations can be made by emailing rccppresents@gmail.com or phoning (804) 554-0595. The Virginia Orchid Society will host its 2024 orchid show, “Orchids: Let’s Celebrate,” at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Feb. 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hundreds of prize-worthy orchids will be on display in the North Wing of the Conservatory (Garden admission required; free for members). This will be an American Orchid Society judged show. The show also features lectures for beginners as well as experienced growers, vendor sales of orchids and accessories, and an art exhibit which are free and open to the public. The Chamberlayne Actors Theatre, or CAT, will present the comedy “Clever Little Lies” at 8 p.m. Feb. 23-24 and at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Hanover Arts & Activities Center, 500 South Center Street in Ashland. Written by Joe DiPietro and directed by Zachary Owen, the play follows Alice, who is trying to determine why her husband Bill came home on edge after a tennis match with their son. The 23rd annual Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo will take place Saturday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Vendors and exhibitors will be on site selling pet-related products and services. Demonstrations, contests, puppy and Corgi races, a pet parade and other pet-friendly activities will be scheduled throughout the day. There also will be a lure course for dogs, silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle, activities for kids, dog adoptions and more. All proceeds from the Pet Expo help Henrico Humane Society rescue dogs and cats from across Central Virginia, provide them with necessary medical care, and place them in loving, forever homes. The University of Richmond’s Department of Music and American Studies Program will present a piano concert featuring Dr. Elizabeth Morgan on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at Perkinson Recital Hall. Morgan will perform works by Latina, Black, Asian American and Native American women. Between pieces she will discuss the composers’ lives and aesthetics and timely considerations related to gender and classical music programming. Admission is free. Seating is general admission.
