Violinist and composer Layale Chaker and Sarafand will perform at the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. With a deep respect for the rich cultural heritage of the Middle East, Chaker and Sarafand infuse traditional Lebanese and Syrian music with a modern sensibility. Syrian-born, Brooklyn-based composer and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh joins as a guest artist. Tickets are $30 to $50 for adults, $10 for youth and $5 for UR students. The 2024 RVA Raceway Boat Show will take place at the Richmond Raceway Complex from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 16, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 17, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 18. Visitors can explore and shop the latest models and gear related to all aspects of water sports – from pleasure boating and skiing to fishing, real estate, docks, lifts and more. As part of the Great Backyard Bird Count taking place this weekend, Libbie Mill Library will present a "Family Birding" workshop at 10 a.m. Perfect for families and individuals who are new to birding, this informative program will begin inside with a brief introduction to birding and the ideas behind citizen science. The group will then take a short walk around the library's green space to look for and count birds. There also will be a craft for children with supplies provided. A limited number of binoculars will be available. All ages welcome; children need adult supervision. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen, will present The Honey Dewdrops on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. The duo – Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish – explore through their music the push-and-pull between their original roots in the Appalachian Mountains and their current home in urban Baltimore. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; teens 13-18 are admitted at half price and children 12 and under are free.
