Henrico Recreation and Parks will host a Valentine’s dance on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. “Valentine Boogie With Your VIP” is for children ages six and older with an adult. Wear Valentine colors, dance with your Very Important Person, and enjoy dessert, games, a photo booth and more. Admission is free. Click here for details or email cun04@henrico.us.


The Richmond Animal League will host its annual Sugar and Spice cocktail event and silent auction on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Atlas 42, 4032-A Cox Road in Innsbrook. The fundraiser will feature food from local restaurants, an open bar, a silent auction featuring Small Art with Big Heart, and more. The Sugar and Spice event in 2023 raised more than $91,000 for animals in need. Tickets are $75. For details, visit ral.org/sugarandspice.


The Richmond Reptile Expo will take place Saturday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richmond Raceway Complex. The event will feature a large selection of legal and healthy reptiles, as well as supplies, in a safe and informative environment. Henrico Recreation and Parks will present the history program “Lieutenant James Reese Europe and the Harlem Hell Fighters” on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadow Farm’s Parsons Community Center. The syncopated melodies of conductor James Europe and his 369th U.S. Infantry Band known as the Harlem Hell Fighters enthralled the bastion of cultural elites in the shadow of the first World War – only to have the music silenced by murder. The Lakeside Love Fest, a local collaborative market, will take place Sunday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Farmers' Market. While the collaborative market is open weekly indoors, the Lakeside Love Fest will expand into the outdoor pavilion to include even more local vendors to shop from. There also will be a Valentine’s Day-themed craft workshop to create something special for yourself or a loved one. Admission is free, open to the community and family-friendly.
