River Road Presbyterian Church, 8600 River Road, will present “Carols and Keyboards” at 7 p.m. Dec. 7-8. This festive musical experience is an annual tradition featuring holiday favorites and traditional religious selections performed on four grand pianos alongside an organ, choir, vocal soloists, congregational singing, and special lighting. The Shoestring Players at J.R. Tucker High School will present “Sweeney Todd” at 7 p.m. Dec. 7-9 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at the school, 2910 North Parham Road. The infamous tale takes place in nineteenth-century London where Sweeney Todd, an unjustly-exiled barber, seeks vengeance against a lecherous judge who framed him and violated his young wife. Todd opens a new barber store above Mrs. Lovett’s failing pie shop, who starts to integrate a new ingredient into her meat pies inspired by Todd’s bloodthirsty carnage. The Varina Ruritan Club and Henrico Recreation and Parks will present the Varina Big Toy Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 9. This longstanding holiday tradition begins at 1 p.m. at the River Bend Estates subdivision and travels to Osborne Park & Boat Landing. Following the parade, there will be family-friendly activities at Osborne Park until 4 p.m. Participants can visit the big toys and their owners and enjoy vendors, food, a bounce house, face painting, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and more. The annual Richmond Boat Parade of Lights will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 on the James River. The parade will start at Rocketts Landing and finish at Osborne Park & Boat Landing in Henrico. The parade can also be viewed from The Lilly Pad restaurant at 9680 Osborne Turnpike for $10 admission.
