A Drive-in Laser Light Show will take place Oct. 8-10 at the Richmond Raceway. This family-friendly show includes musical hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s through today, all choreographed with cutting-edge effects, 25 high powered lasers and a dual large screen laser projection. Admission is $29 per carload – no limit on the number of passengers. There will be a dedicated tailgate seating area with social distancing in front of every vehicle. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and refreshments. Two 60-minute shows will take place Friday and Saturday (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.) plus one 7:30 p.m. show on Sunday. Jurassic Encounter, featuring more than 55 static and animatronic dinosaurs, fossils and 26 different species, will be at the Richmond Raceway complex from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Guests remain in their vehicle for the duration of the tour and can visit the “Dino Village” at the end to browse gifts and souvenirs. The tour includes an audio narration written with a focus on education and humor designed for all ages. Timed tickets must be purchased in advance online and are priced per vehicle. The Glen Allen Ruritan Club, in cooperation with Henrico Recreation & Parks, will host the 25th Annual Glen Allen Day on Saturday at Crump Park and Meadow Farm with the theme “25 Years of Bringing Glen Allen Together.” The day will begin with the GA5K (Glen Allen 5K) to benefit Glen Allen High School at 8 a.m. in the park. At 9:30 a.m., a parade will start at the intersection of John Cussons Drive and Meadow Farm and then travel to Meadow Farm. From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., festivities in the park will include a vendor fair with approximately 125 vendors, food trucks, music and entertainment, a hay maze, pumpkin decorating, inflatables, a large “sandbox” of corn, a petting zoo and more. The Henrico Extension Bug Bizarre, a free community festival celebrating entomology, the study of insects, will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Deep Run Recreation Center, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway. The event is open to the public and will feature live insect displays and children’s activities. Exhibits will show tobacco hornworms in all stages of life as well as parasitic wasps, several species of roaches, bess beetles, house spiders and other insects from the Kester Lab at Virginia Commonwealth University. Exhibits also will feature a honey-making beehive and a butterfly room, which will highlight butterflies and caterpillars.
