SEPT 13The Henrico Theatre Company will open its 41st season with “Squabbles” Sept. 13-29 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The play by Marshall Karp pits a father-in-law against a mother, who both live with their respective children, in a comedic succession of squabbles. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 55+ and students. Season tickets also are available. Dozens of vendors will be selling plants ranging from well-known favorites to rare exotics. Knowledgeable Garden volunteers will be on hand to help shoppers select the best plants. No admission fee required; regular admission to visit the Garden. PlantFest is presented by Garden volunteers and a portion of vendor proceeds will be donated to the Garden. For details, visit lewisginter.org. *** The Treasures of the Earth Gem and Jewelry Show will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14-15 at Richmond Raceway. The show features estate, classic, handcrafted and fashion jewelry made from a variety of metals, as well as crystals, minerals and fossils. The Henrico Bug Bizarre, a family-oriented event that celebrates the fun and excitement of the science of entomology, will be held at Deep Run Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will not only see mounted insect collections from various groups and organizations, but get to see live bugs including bees, butterflies, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, mosquitoes and more. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen, will present East of Monroe at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $20 with discounts for teens; children 12 and under are free. Country star Brantley Gilbert will perform at Innsbrook After Hours at 6 p.m. A native of Georgia, Gilbert released his debut album “Modern Day Prodigal Son” in 2009. In addition to his original work, Gilbert has written songs for Colt Ford and Jason Aldean. His next album “Fire & Brimstone” releases in October. Tickets start at $31. Henrico Live will kick off its sixth season with Bak N Da Day at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 and at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road. The free event “Soulful Sunday” will take place at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. From their first arrival in 1619, Africans and African Americans have contributed to and shaped the nation’s culture through art, music, food, and religion. Soulful Sunday will celebrate and commemorate these traditions with dance and music performances, arts and crafts activities, historical portrayals, and product and food vendors. Libbie Mill—Midtown, 4901 Libbie Mill East Boulevard, will present “Three Sopranos in Concert: An Evening of Beloved Songs” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Three Sopranos – Caroline Whisnant, Abigail Stinnett and Sarah Kate Walston – will perform selections from the world of opera and operetta, as well as timeless popular classics.
