APR 12Dallas-based The Quebe Sisters will bring their authentic triple fiddle and three-part harmony sound to The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen at 7 p.m. Fiddle champions Grace, Sophia and Hulda Quebe define their music as progressive western swing – a combination of Americana, jazz-influenced swing, Texas-style fiddling and country Western. This indoor exhibit in the Conservatory will feature hundreds of tropical butterflies. Explore their origins, preferred habitats and life-cycles. An opening weekend celebration will be held April 13. A butterfly basics walk and talk will start at 10 a.m. and Studio Two Three will be on site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are invited to make a Hollar-inspired butterfly print to take home. Meadow Farm Museum’s annual Sheep to Shawl event will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The arrival of spring means it’s time to shear the sheep. Clothos Handspinners will demonstrate the art of processing wool, and visitors will be able to try carding, spinning and weaving themselves. Learn about rare Gulf Coast Native Sheep and make a wool craft. There also will be music, food and vendors, and the opportunity to purchase a fleece right off the sheep to benefit the Friends of Meadow Farm. Admission is free. The Mullins Sisters will perform at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. With deep musical roots from Southwest Virginia, Deanna, Betty and Mary perform original songs and today’s country. They are joined by Darren Simons, Billy Moran and Derrin Foster. The concert is part of Henrico Live’s fifth season. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at www.henricolive.com.


The 10th Annual Richmond Bluegrass Jam will take place from noon to 11 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The free, family-friendly event features more than 25 of the region’s best bluegrass and Americana bands playing on three stages for 11 straight hours, all to raise money for the Richmond Fisher House and the families of wounded veterans. Bands performing include: East of Afton, Big Boss Combo, Slack Family Bluegrass, Commonwealth Bluegrass Band, Josh Grigsby and County Line, and many more. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will present David Mallett and George Turman at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen. Mallett has recorded 14 albums during his four-decade career and his body of work has provided material for an eclectic list of artists including Alison Kraus, Pete Seeger, John Denver and others. The 2nd annual Richmond Raceway Craft Beer Fest will take place prior to the Toyota Owners 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race in the covered arena near the midway. In partnership with the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild, fans will have the opportunity to sample flagship beers from Virginia’s best craft breweries. Richmond Family Magazine’s 9th annual RFM Summer Adventure Expo will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Peak Experiences RVA at the Sports Center of Richmond, 1385 Overbrook Road. Summer camps from across the region and beyond will be present with information on their programs. There will also be games, crafts, live demonstrations, food and prizes. Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Sunday Afternoon with the Classics” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Deep Run Park. The Corvette Club of Richmond and Richmond Region AACA will give a presentation about the Chevrolet Corvette, introduced in 1953 as the first large-scale, mass-produced car with an all-fiberglass body. The program will explore eight generations of vehicle design and why 1.5 million Corvettes have been sold in America and around the world. Admission is free.
