APR 5The Bizarre Bazaar’s 27th Spring Market returns to Richmond Raceway from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 5-6 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 7. Unique offerings include seasonal gifts, decorative accessories for the home and garden, gourmet food, fine linens, clothing, toys, outdoor furniture, artwork, jewelry and more. Tickets are $7 for adults and $1.50 for children 2-12. Early Bird tickets, which offer early admission from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. April 5, are $12 for adults. No strollers are allowed. They have shared the stage with many national acts including The Oak Ridge Boys, Travis Tritt and The Gatlin Brothers. Meadow Farm Museum will present “History in Focus: A Series” on select Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All ages are invited to explore historical topics in detail with staff-led specialty tours. Today’s topic is Mosby Had a Little Lamb – while visiting the flock at Meadow Farm, discover how Mosby Sheppard bought, raised and used sheep to enhance his farm operation. Admission is free. Strange’s, 12111 W. Broad Street, will host “Bloomin’ Days” April 6-7 – a weekend of free classes, demonstrations and special sales. Participating businesses and organizations include the Central Virginia Iris Society, Richmond Rose Society, Richmond Beekeepers Association, Henrico Master Gardeners, Agriberry CSA and Farm, Tidal Creek Growers and more. Free pH soil testing will be available all weekend. Classes cover topics such as vegetable gardening, boxwood care, landscaping, controlling moles and voles, back yard chickens, beekeeping and more. The Fairfield National Ruritan Club will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5650 Elko Road in Sandston. All proceeds will benefit the club. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.


The Strike Out Cancer Bowling Challenge and Silent Auction to support the American Cancer Society will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bowl America - Short Pump, 4400 Pouncey Tract Road. The Magic Show Tour, featuring Braden Carlisle and Tommy Halladay, will stop at the ComedySportz Richmond Theater, 8906-H W. Broad Street, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Carlisle, a comedy magician, is the author of “Agree to Disagree” and host of the weekly podcast, Awesome People Talking. “Remembering World War II: A Series” continues at Belmont Recreation Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The topic for April will be “Rosie the Riveter.” With the advent of WWII, women flooded the workforce to fill the jobs men vacated when they joined the armed forces. The manpower needed to fight necessitated a break-down of traditional family structure and gendered roles, which had immediate and far-reaching consequences. Admission is free. For ages 13 and older. The University of Richmond will host Global Sounds and Day of Play from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Westhampton Green. Family-friendly concerts and dance performances will feature Japanese, Indonesian, West African, Indian, and Brazilian music. The event also will include “The Richmond Playbook,” a day of play with games, an instrument petting zoo, food trucks and more. “The Richmond Playbook” is a collection of music and movement-related game pieces developed in collaboration with Eighth Blackbird and students from UR, Richmond and Henrico County.
