The Latin Ballet of Virginia will present its 18th anniversary performance of “The Legend of the Poinsettia” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 and at 3 p.m. Jan. 13 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The story is based on the Mexican legend about a pure-hearted young girl who discovers the true spirit of giving. HATTheatre, located at 1124 Westbriar Drive in Henrico’s West End, will present “Roger B. Heard and the Tight 45” at 8 p.m. Jan. 11-12 and at 2 p.m. Jan. 13. The production is written by Alex Mayberry and directed by James Nygren with original music by Matt Treacy. The story follows Roger B. Heard, a veteran voice actor. The Henrico Humane Society’s 19th annual Pet Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Richmond Raceway. More than 50 vendors and exhibitors will be on site selling pet-related products and services. Activities will include a pet parade, lure track, dog contests, demonstrations, an agility course, adoptions, silent auctions, family-friendly activities and more. Contemporary a cappella group Uncommon will perform at the Henrico Theatre from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Founded in 2013, this eclectic semi-professional septet draws inspiration from RVA’s legendary indie music scene to create a unique sound that combines alternative rock with jazz, barbershop and anything else that sounds cool. The Ninth Annual Israeli Film Festival will present its final two films: Shelter – Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Weinstein JCC; and The Cakemaker – Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Byrd Theatre. The festival is dedicated to fostering an understanding of Israeli culture and access to Israel’s young but thriving film industry. Films are selected based upon considerations such as awards or nominations, timely subject matter and input from the film community. Cost is $7 to $10 per film. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will present singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Road in Glen Allen. Gilbert started his career hoping to be a jazz singer but found that he enjoyed the storytelling sensibilities of acoustic folk music. Seasoned Cycles LLC, located at 2521 Grenoble Road, will host its first open house of 2019 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Custom bikes from the bike build-off will be unveiled. The Verve Pipe will perform at 7 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Road. The multi-platinum alternative rock band The Verve Pipe is best known for their radio hits “The Freshmen,” “Photograph” and “Hero.” The band expanded their repertoire in 2009 and 2013 with the writing and recording of two family albums. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will broadcast Bolshoi Ballet’s production of “La Sylphide” at 12:55 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. The Modlin Center, in partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, will broadcast the fourth consecutive season of Pathe Live’s Bolshoi Ballet, which broadcasts ballet productions direct from the grand Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia.
