ComedySportz Richmond will present the 8th annual Improv Festivus Dec. 14-16 at the CSz Richmond Theater, 8906 W. Broad Street. Eight shows over three nights will feature more than 100 improvisors and 30 troupes from across the country. The festival also will include many workshops and master classes throughout the weekend. The Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs, will present “Christmas with KOS Band & Susan Greenbaum” at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The concerts will feature seasonal songs and unique arrangements performed by local favorites KOS Band and Susan Greenbaum. Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Road, will host its 3rd annual Bluegrass Concert Series. The series features a monthly concert December through April from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tonight’s performer is Donna Ulisse. Tickets are $17 in advance and $22 at the door. Meadow Farm Museum will offer Holiday Lantern Tours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the 19th century, Christmas was a popular time to get married. Costumed interpreters will portray family and friends of the happy couple as they prepare for the big day. After the ceremony, enjoy refreshments to celebrate. VA Rep on Tour will present “The Shoemaker and the Christmas Elves” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. This yuletide spin on the classic Brothers’ Grimm fairy tale follows a poor shoemaker and his wife who are visited by Christmas elves on assignment from Santa. Tickets are $15. 3 Penny Theatre’s production of “A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story for Christmas” will take place at 7 p.m. at The Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Road. In this one-person show, actor Ray Carver will tell the classic story as Scrooge’s creator, Charles Dickens. He will play all the characters himself – from Scrooge to the ghosts and the whole Cratchit family – over 40 different characters in all. 3 Penny Theatre also will celebrate Ebenezer Scrooge’s 175th birthday and the production will include a birthday party at intermission for the famous miser. 3 Penny Theatre believes the arts are for everyone and practices radical hospitality. The ACE Center at Hermitage will present the 1st annual Tech the Halls winter festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hermitage High School, 8301 Hungary Spring Road. Activities will include a Kid Zone, live music, health and wellness center, food, vendors, arts and crafts, automotive diagnostics, a silent auction, on-site notary and more. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present “Christmas in Killarney” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 in Alice Jepson Theatre. Irish dancers will transport you to the old village of Killarney, Ireland, where some of the most iconic Christmas traditions originated. Tickets are $35 to $40. River Road Church, 8000 River Road, will present its biennial performance of Handel’s “Messiah” Part I from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The special event, part of the church’s E. Carl Freeman Concert Series, will showcase RRCB’s Chancel Choir under the direction of Dr. Robert Gallagher, minister of music. The orchestra and Dr. Gallagher also will perform organ concerto in B flat major, Opus 4, No. 6, a piece that Handel wrote for organ or harp. Admission is free and open to the public. Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, will hold a Holiday Open House from noon to 4 p.m. Watch local artists Sara O’Connor and Robin Grabinska give live demonstrations of their creative processes and bid on mid-century paintings by Richmond artists Alvin and Helen Hattorf to benefit The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation.
