The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen’s 2nd Stage season continues with “An Evening of Holidays & Harps” featuring the American Youth Harp Ensemble at 7 p.m. The Richmond-based ensemble serves over 800 young harpists, ages 5-18. Recognized nationally as a model arts education program, they have performed in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and the White House. Gayton Baptist Church, 13501 N. Gayton Rd., will present its 10th annual Jazz Nativity featuring David Esleck at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 2-3. Jazz Nativity includes many holiday favorites in styles ranging from big band swing to Trans-Siberian Orchestra-style rock. Gourmet coffee and desserts will be available from Starbucks. Proceeds from Jazz Nativity will benefit Feed My Starving Children. General admission is $10 with individual table seats available for $15 and paired tables (two seats) available for $45. The 10th annual No Room at the Inn Gala & Nativities exhibit will take place Dec. 1-3 at Church of the Redeemer in Mechanicsville. The preview gala will be held Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and features an adults-only evening of live music, wine, beer, food, auctions for all budgets, the chance to see hundreds of nativities from around the world and more. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The nativities exhibit continues through the weekend; hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3. Proceeds benefit neighbors experiencing homelessness in Central Virginia and Haiti through partnerships with Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Functions, AFAL and Henrico-based Safe Harbor. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, in partnership with Henrico Recreation and Parks, will present the 19th annual Tree Lighting from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate, holiday music performances, a toasty bonfire, kids’ holiday crafts and a special visit from Santa to light the 60-foot cedar Christmas tree. Richmond's leading Klezmer Band, Klezm'Or"Ami'm, will perform from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Libbie Mill Library. All ages will enjoy this high-spirited Eastern European dance music which will include a vocalist and musicians on clarinet, drums, accordian, guitar, trumpet, bass, and trombone. The Tuckahoe Library will screen “Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport” (2000, PG, 117 minutes) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. “Into the Arms of Strangers” is an Academy Award-winning documentary about the mass exodus of Jewish children from World War II Germany and their eventual adoptions. Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 2605 Dumbarton Rd., will host Seconds for Second Chances, an art sale to benefit Reece’s Rainbow, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 40 artists have donated their extras and usable seconds to be sold at bargain prices. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Rd. in Glen Allen, will present “An Americana Christmas” at 8 p.m. The first half of the concert will consist of nine traditional scripture lessons, illustrated by traditional and contemporary music. The second half of the concert will include stories and songs from several holiday traditions, including Hanukah, Yule and Christmas. The UUCC Choir, as well as a number of smaller ensembles and soloists, will perform. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door; teens are admitted at half price and children age 12 and under are free. Net proceeds benefit UUCC. Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Rd., will host its 2nd annual Bluegrass Concert Series. The Clarke-Palmore Museum, 904 McCoul St., will hold its Christmas Open House from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tour the house and see what Christmas was like for a family during the 1930s. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will broadcast Bolshoi Ballet’s production of “The Taming of the Shrew” at 12:55 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. Pathe Live's Bolshoi Ballet program brings the best Bolshoi Ballet productions direct from Moscow, Russia to cinemas and performing arts centers across the U.S. Each production features behind-the-scenes programming, including interviews with the cast and creative teams, either prior to the start of the production, or during intermission.
