Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present the Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 23 to Jan. 7 (closed Dec. 24-25). This year’s theme, “Bringing Art to Light,” will explore how well-known works of art are inspired by nature. The annual event features one million lights, botanical decorations, model trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more. Weekly events, such as Artful Wednesdays and Musical Thursdays, will take place, as well as GardenFest for Fidos (Dec. 6 and Jan. 3) when leashed and vaccinated dogs are allowed. Strangeways Brewing, 2277A Dabney Road, will host a pop-up Black Friday Local Market from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. All vendors will be small, local businesses. Strangeways will have bundled swag gifts and a special collaboration release as well. Lavender Fields Herb Farm, 11300 Winfrey Road in Glen Allen, will hold its annual Christmas Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23-24. The farm store is full of unique gift ideas from all things lavender to Virginia peanuts, raw local honey with the honey comb, pre-made gift baskets and more. ComedySportz Richmond will perform two shows – 8 p.m. Nov. 23 and 7 p.m. Nov. 24 – at the CSz Richmond Theatre, 8906-H W. Broad Street. ComedySportz pits two teams of professional players against each other in an improv battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes and songs on the spot based off audience suggestions. A referee calls fouls and the audience decides the winner. Every show is different, with different players, games, and fans supplying new suggestions. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. CharacterWorks, a Christian youth theater program, will present “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” Nov. 23-25 at The Steward School, 11600 Gayton Road. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, “Newsies” is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Regency Mall, 1420 N. Parham Road. A decline in donations occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, when regular donors are busy with holiday activities and travel. The Richmond Funny Bone, located at Short Pump Town Center, will present comedian Antoine Scott at 7 p.m. Scott’s first stage was the large mirror in his parents’ bedroom where he performed for an imaginary audience as a child. Since then, Scott has shared the stage with some of the best comedians in the business including D.L. Hughley, Monique, Kevin Hart and Tracy Morgan. Tickets are $10. Livingston Taylor will perform at 7 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Road. Taylor is equally at home with a range of musical genres and from upbeat storytelling to ballads and full orchestra performances. This varied repertoire is no surprise as 2018 marks Livingston’s 51st year of performing. He also has been a professor at Berklee College of Music for 28 years, teaching thousands of students (including Gavin DeGraw, John Mayer and Charlie Puth) the craft of stage performance.
