The L’Arche Gold Chicken Players will present “This is Me!” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road. More than 70 performers of all abilities will sing, dance, tell jokes and play music in this variety show for all ages. Featuring singer and musician Susan Greenbaum, the Miracles in Motion dancers, People International singers and dancers, friends from L’Arche Metro Richmond and Heart Havens, and many more. Corinth United Methodist Church, 23 W. Williamsburg Road, will host a “Christmas in October” yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon to benefit Wreaths Across America at the Seven Pines National Cemetery in Sandston. Innsbrook's 9th annual Pumpkin Palooza will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Shore Commons Lawn, 4951 Lake Brook Drive. The event will feature the popular Punkin Dunkin contest, a battle of the bands competition and other entertainment, craft and vendor fair, bounce house, rock climbing wall, petting zoo, pony rides, costume contest, local restaurants, fall brews and more. Dorey Park Farmers Market will hold its last market of the season, as well as a Community Fall Festival, starting at 9 a.m. In addition to a variety of fresh local produce, the market also has baked goods, jams and jellies, artisan soaps and lotions, fermented foods, eggs and handcrafted items. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host OktoberFest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jackass Flats will perform live under the Bloemendaal House tent and there will be family-friendly lawn games including cornhole, ladder golf and life-size Jenga. Local food will be available for purchase (including a kid’s menu) as well as beer from Center of the Universe Brewing. Regency Mall will host Fright Night beginning at 3 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to trick or treat with merchants until 5 p.m. and then watch “Hotel Transylvania 2” on the big screen on the lower level while enjoying free popcorn. The Richmond, Va. Comicon will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 (VIP admission at 11 a.m.) and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Old Dominion Building at Richmond Raceway. There will be workshops, contests, live RPG, a collectibles expo, exhibitors and more. General admission starts at $10 for adults; children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a paid adult. The Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 at Richmond Raceway. Competitions include fiddle, harp, highland dance, piping, drumming and Gaelic song, as well as heavy athletics and hurling. The Fighting Jamesons, Albannach and others will perform. The Vendor Village will be selling jewelry, traditional Celtic food, pottery and kilts. There will also be whiskey tastings (additional fee) and children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick or treat with the clans in attendance. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host its annual harvest celebration, Goblins and Gourds, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event features live music from the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra, pumpkin painting, storytelling and demonstrations in gourd carving, pumpkin carving, vermiculture, blacksmithing and more.
