Henrico Live will continue its fifth season with Tyler Hughes Old Time Music and Appalachian Dance at 7 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. in Highland Springs. Hughes presents the living musical traditions of Southwest Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains through songs, family-friendly tales and true stories about the music’s origins. He is an award-winning banjoist and dancer and performs on guitar, autoharp and dulcimer as well. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.henricolive.com.


Tom Leonard’s, 4150 Tom Leonard Drive in Short Pump, will host its 15th annual free Friday Night Movie at the Pumpkin Patch at 7 p.m. in the outdoor haybale amphitheater. Tonight’s movie is “Hotel Transylvania.” There will be cider and hot chocolate. Kids who come dressed in their Halloween costumes can take home a free mini pumpkin. The Richmond Home Show returns Oct. 12-14 to Richmond Raceway. More than 150 vendors representing every aspect of home improvement – including remodeling, kitchen and bath, décor, flooring, landscaping and more – will be available. The featured presenter will be “The House Counselor,” Laurie March, design coordinator for DIY Network’s Blog Cabin. Other highlights include presentations by national and local experts, a New Products Showcase and The Upcycle Challenge benefitting Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14. Admission is $6 in advance online or $8 at the door for adults and free for kids 12 and under. The Quioccasin Station Shopping Center will hold its 5th annual Back to School Block Party from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities will include children’s music, a petting zoo, juggling, magic tricks, balloon animals, face painting, rock painting and more. VA Rep on Tour will present “Sleeping Beauty” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. The 2018 Indian & Sri Lankan Food Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, 10509 Greenwood Road in Glen Allen. Walkerton Tavern will present “Remembering the Great War: Occupation of Germany” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Many future WWII leaders were Doughboys in WWI, including five who would become marine commandant, four army chiefs of staff, ten four-star generals and, surprisingly, a National Football League head coach. West Broad Village will host its Fall Festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Pad, 2301 Old Brick Road.
