Tom Leonard’s, 4150 Tom Leonard Drive in Short Pump, will host its 15th annual free Friday Night Movie at the Pumpkin Patch at 7 p.m. in the outdoor haybale amphitheater. Tonight’s movie is “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.” There will be cider and hot chocolate. Kids who come dressed in their Halloween costumes can take home a free mini pumpkin. Friends of the Sandston Library will hold a book sale from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 5 (Preview Night for Sandston Friends only – new members may join at the door) and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6, which is open to the community. Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad will celebrate 60 years of service to the citizens of Henrico County with an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2007 Timberlake Ave. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the station and ambulances and see equipment demonstrations. There also will be hands-on learning, safety information, kid’s activities, face painting, food, raffles, prizes and more. The event is free. The Home Building Association of Richmond (HBAR) will present the 67th Annual Parade of Homes every weekend in October from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The self-guided tour features 73 new homes, built by 30 builder members, in the Greater Richmond area including the counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, King William, New Kent and Powhatan. Participants will be able to see new features and floor plans, innovative ideas and master craftsmanship at prices spanning from the low $200s to over $1.1 million. Over half the homes are decorated models. Additionally, each weekend will feature a community sponsor: Magnolia Green – Oct. 6-7; RounTrey – Oct. 13-14; Harpers Mill – Oct. 20-21; and Hickory Hill (Hanover County) – Oct. 27-28. Each sponsor will feature community-wide events that all members of the public are invited to attend. Admission to the Parade of Home is free. Meadow Farm will present Saturday Live from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month through October. Enjoy an afternoon of interactive live history demonstrations as you explore this mid-19th century farm – from blacksmithing and wool dyeing to woodworking, cooking and gardening. In addition to regular activities, each Saturday will have a unique theme and guests will be able to explore what that particular subject was like in the 1860s. Henrico Police and the Henrico Division of Solid Waste and Recycling will host a joint document shredding and electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the former BEST Products building, 1400 Best Plaza Drive, in the county's Northside. Citizens may bring up to two boxes or three paper grocery bags of personal documents to shred free of charge. Electronics recycled free include computers, printers, fax machines, VCRs, stereos and microwaves, among others. The cost to recycle TVs is $23 to $30. The Shady Grove Coffeehouse will present Americana and bluegrass band The Anvil Brothers at 8 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 11105 Cauthorne Rd. in Glen Allen. The Anvil Brothers – Taylor Clark, Jim Mohr, Doug Hepler and Donnie Durham – released their first album in March 2018 titled “Little Stories.” It contains 11 original songs and one completely remodeled traditional tune. The 12th annual Step UP for Down Syndrome 5K & Family Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ACCA Shrine Center, 1712 Bellevue Avenue. The 5K run will go through Bryan Park. The family festival, which is free and open to the public, will feature live music by Premiere, group and individual performances, children’s activities, the Great DSAGR Pumpkin Patch, the 6th annual fashion show, sponsor and exhibitor displays, Superstars Celebration and more. Wine Women & Shoes – an afternoon of shopping and wine tasting, all for a good cause – will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump. The event is hosted by the Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation and proceeds will benefit Bon Secours Forensic Nursing, which is celebrating 25 years helping victims of abuse. Participants can sip fine wines, shop the latest styles of shoes and accessories, bid on deluxe auction items, enjoy a high-energy fashion show and mingle with the Shoe Guys. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will host a Sunday Brunch Market from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Part farmers market and part arts market, the event also will feature a wine and beer garden, picnic space, live entertainment, kid’s activities, food from Glen Allen Super Market and more. Vendors include Organic Honey by Stargell Apiaries, Brother Nobody’s Naturals, Charles City Fruit, Death by Glitter, Dominion Energy Green Power, Dorabella Designs, Fun Reimagined, Geescakes and Robin Grabinska, among others.
