Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, will present “Voices in Praise” at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The concert will feature the 50-member Gloria Deo! Festival Chorus and composer-led choral works and piano stylings by guest artists Joseph Martin, Heather Sorenson, Larry Shackley and David Schwoebel. Admission is free. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host its Fall PlantFest from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29. Dozens of vendors will be selling plants ranging from well-known favorites to rare exotics. Knowledgeable Garden volunteers will be on hand to help you choose the best plants. Gallmeyer Farms will hold its Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29-30 at The Pumpkin Patch, 4506 Millers Lane. Enjoy live music from Danny Kensy Trio and Cobalt Whiskey on Saturday and Cedar Creek and Cisco on Sunday, pick-your-own or pre-picked pumpkins, hay rides and pony rides, craft vendors and local businesses, fresh fall vegetables and mums for sale at The Veggie Stand, food vendors, children’s activities including a free bounce house and more. The Varina High School PTSA will host a community day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, 7053 Messer Dr. The event will feature a yoga demonstration, a jumping castle for kids, children's games, a silent auction, performances by step and dance teams, music, face painting, vendors, food trucks, a cruise in ($5 donation requested) and door prizes. St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 9801 Fort King Road, will host its Fall Children’s Consignment Sale to benefit the church’s Kidz Kupboard program, which provides weekend meals to local students who might otherwise go without. Items for sale include gently used and new clothing, toys, games, books, DVDs, baby equipment, nursery furniture and more. Virginia Credit Union LIVE! at Richmond Raceway will present “Off to the Races: The RVA Bluegrass Experience” at 5 p.m. The concert features The Infamous Stringdusters, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Del McCoury Band and the Jeff Austin Band. The Sons of Dominion Motorcycle Club will hold its 6th Annual Autism Poker Run at 9 a.m. The ride will start at Renegade Classics Richmond, 7590 West Broad Street. Lunch will be available at the end of the run. There will also be raffles and prizes. Cost is $25 per rider and $10 per passenger with proceeds benefiting the Autism Society of Central Virginia. Sandston Baptist Church, Sandston Presbyterian Church and Corinth United Methodist Church will host a “Cruise In” from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sandston Baptist, 100 W. Williamsburg Road. Nearly 175 automotive participants and more than 800 spectators are expected. There also will be refreshments and live music. This event was previously scheduled for June 9 but canceled due to weather. For details, call 687-6121.


Henrico Recreation and Parks will present “Real to Reel: Red Tails” (2012, PG-13, 125 minutes) from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road. Real to Reel examines how historically accurate films are. James Triesler, director of education at the Virginia War Memorial, will explore the experiences of Tuskegee Airmen during World War II and compare them with Hollywood’s interpretation of this pivotal time period. The 2018 Short Pump Mile & Express Fun Run will be held at Short Pump Town Center in front of American Family Fitness.
