West Broad Village will host Family Movies on the Lawn – tonight’s featured film is “Despicable Me 3” (2017, PG, 89 min.). The movie will start at 9 p.m. at The Pad, 2301 Old Brick Rd., near Aloft. Red Vein Haunted House in Ashland will hold an open casting call for the upcoming Halloween season from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Intermission Beer Company, 10089 Brook Rd., Unit A, in Glen Allen. The Henrico Teen Theatre Company will present “The Jungle Book” at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 3-4 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. “The Jungle Book” is adapted by Tim Kelly from the “Mowgli” stories of Rudyard Kipling. Mowgli is a jungle boy raised by wolves and lives in the bush with his good friends Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther, and Kaa the python. His mortal enemy is Shere Kahn, a man-eating tiger. Meadow Farm will present Saturday Live from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month through August. Enjoy an afternoon of interactive live history demonstrations as you explore this mid-19th century farm – from blacksmithing and wool dyeing to woodworking, cooking and gardening. In addition to regular activities, each Saturday will have a unique theme and guests will be able to explore what that particular subject was like in the 1860s. Regency Mall will present its second annual Back-to-School Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get a head start on school shopping and take advantage of the Virginia tax-free weekend. Vendors will have information on health and nutrition, tutoring, homeownership, mortgages, sports, college savings, after school activities, fashion and more. The first 800 families will receive a goodie bag from WRIC 8 News. “Stuff the bus” with school supplies to benefit a local Henrico County school. Highland Springs United Methodist Church, located at 22 N. Holly Ave., will hold its 2018 Family Funfest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be games, a bounce house and face painting for children ages 2-10; basketball games and prizes for ages 11-17; and music and cake walks for the adults. Innsbrook After Hours will present Grammy Award-winning hip hop/neo soul band The Roots at the SERVPRO of Richmond Pavilion. Formed in 1987 by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson in Philadelphia, The Roots are known for their jazzy, eclectic approach to hip hop which includes live instruments. The Intergalactic Bead and Jewelry Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4-5 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Exhibitors from across the U.S. will have a unique selection of beads – semi-precious and precious gemstone beads, seed beads, handmade glass beads, pearls, exotic beads and more – for both wholesale and retail. Bill Kirchen will perform at 7 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. Kirchen was originally known as co-founder and lead guitarist of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, one of the first and only rock-n-roll bands to infuse their honky-tonk sound country roots and western swing. Kirchen’s latest album, “Transatlanticana,” is a joint project with the Godfather of Pub Rock, Austin de Lone. The Taters will open the show and local Tater Craig Evans, along with drummer Jack O’Dell, will perform with Kirchen. Tickets are $27.50 in advance and $32.50 at the door.
