CharacterWorks Theater, a nonprofit after-school theater arts program for students ages 4-19, will present “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” Nov. 17-26 at The Steward School, 11600 Gayton Rd. Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, and the wildly popular Disney film, this musical staging of “Disney's The Little Mermaid” features the hit songs “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.” Evening performances are at 8 p.m. while matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $16. Doors Wide Open will perform from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs. Doors Wide Open is a collaborative effort of five men who play jazz-fusion and R&B funk. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.henricolive.com.


Lakewood’s annual Holiday Bazaar will feature jewelry, crafts, jellies, sports team items, knitted items and more. Lakewood is located at 1900 Lauderdale Dr. at the intersection of Lauderdale and John Rolfe Parkway.


Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd., will hold an Open House & Artist Reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participating exhibits are Jim Smither: PARIS, Adele Castillo’s student show, Mid-Atlantic Pastel Society: Small Works, Metropolitan Richmond Artists Association, juried all-media show and members show. Knights of Columbus Council 395 will hold a Brunswick Stew sale from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Columbian Center, 2324 Pump Rd. Proceeds will benefit the charitable projects of the Council. To pre-order, call Tom Giannasi at 355-3866.


The Woman’s Club of Sandston will present its first annual Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Building at 21 JB Finley St. in Sandston. Antiques and vendors include LuLaRoe, Nerium, Paparazzi Jewelry, Avon, glitter tattoos, cookbooks and more. There will also be a bake sale, Cub Scout sign-ups and popcorn sale, a Kid’s Corner with magician and face painting, and a photographer for family pictures. Proceeds fund high school scholarships and services for veterans.


Celebrate 50 years of Henrico County Public Library – and even more years of Glen Allen community history – from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Glen Allen Library. Local artist Edith Schermerhorn will discuss her architectural renderings of area buildings, a collection of which are newly displayed at the library. Historian Bob Lehr will give a talk on the history Mountain Road, which dates back to colonial times as a key path to the western part of the state. Refreshments to follow. The 7th annual Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins Run will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Christopher’s School, 711 St. Christopher’s Rd. The 5K course winds through the St. Christopher’s campus and neighborhood. Kids five and under can register for the Donut Dash, which starts at 8 a.m. The winner of the Munchkin’ Run Best Dressed Contest will win free DD coffee or hot chocolate for a year. The Richmond Concert Chorale will open its 2017-18 season with “Light in the Darkness” at 3 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd. Two featured works will be “Beatus Vir” by Monteverdi and “Ein Feste Burg” by Telemann, both accompanied by Jefferson Baroque, a seven-member early music ensemble. James Lee Stanley will perform at 7 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. Stanley has toured with Steven Wright, Bonnie Raitt, Robin Williams and Chicago. He has recorded duet CDs with Peter Tork (Monkees), John Batdorf and others, as well as 25 solo CDs. Stanley was also on StarTrek Deep Space Nine for five years – you saw and heard him even if you didn’t know it – Stanley was the singing Klingon. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
