Sugar Mountain will present “Celebrating the Genius of Neil Young” at 8 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. Sugar Mountain brings together an ensemble of veteran musicians from the New Jersey music scene to faithfully replicate the songs of beloved singer-songwriter Neil Young. The group will cover all the best-known songs and deep cuts from Young’s five-decade career. Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $27.50 at the door. Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd., will host its Annual Members’ Show and Sound Arts Richmond Opening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The members’ show features various mediums, subject matter and skill levels from artists who are part of the Crossroads family. The Steve Ashby sound installation, “Between Rail and Water,” is an exploration of the sonic territory provided by the two primary soundmarks of Richmond – the James River and the railway system. Gallmeyer Farms will host its 6th annual Sweet Corn & Watermelon Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Pumpkin Patch, 4506 Millers Ln. There will be live music, a bounce house, hay rides, pony rides ($5), a Kountry Kids Puddle, craft and art vendors, local businesses and more. Sweet corn roasted on fire pits, as well as other fresh summer vegetables and watermelon, will be available for purchase. Admission and parking are free. Coolers, chairs and picnics welcome. No pets. The 25th annual James River Parade of Lights (canceled last December due to inclement weather) will take place at 6 p.m. at several sites along the James River, including Osborne Park & Boat Landing in Varina. More than 25 boats are expected to participate in this “Christmas in July” lighted boat parade. The event also will feature music, family activities and games and concessions for purchase. The parade follows a 14-mile route from the City of Richmond to the Varina-Enon Bridge. Viewers are encouraged to bring nonperishable donations to support FeedMore. Admission is free. Intermission Beer Company, 10089 Brook Rd., Unit A, will host Star Party and Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. Watch the movie “The Martian” (2015, PG-13, 144 minutes) while enjoying beer with friends. The Richmond Astronomical Society will then set up telescopes from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. to show closeups of the moon and some planets and answer any questions you have about the night sky. The Blacklight Slide will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Richmond Raceway. Go down slides filled with neon glow-in-the-dark water and dance to popular music. Cost is $50 and includes admission, a towel, temporary tattoo and donation to the event charity, A-T Children’s Project. Bring an inner tube (max size 36 inches) or purchase one at the event.
