CharacterWorks, a non-profit after-school theater arts program, will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” May 25-27 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Told entirely through song, the show is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, 11 brothers and the coat of many colors. The musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads, to country-western and even calypso, along with the classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.” Tickets are $10 to $18. The Richmond Funny Bone, located at Short Pump Town Center, will present comedian Corey Holcomb on May 25 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., May 26 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and on May 27 at 7 p.m. Holcomb hit his first open mic in 1992 when Adele Givens called him to the stage. He has been a full-time comedian since, having appeared in numerous films and television shows, comedy festivals and three of his own comedy specials. Tickets are $25. ComedySportz will present their hilarious, fast-paced and clean comedy at 8 p.m. May 25 and at 7 p.m. May 26 at the ComedySportz Improv Theatre, located at 8906-H West Broad St. ComedySportz Richmond pits two teams, the Richmond Legends and the Virginia Hams, against each other in an improv battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot based off of audience suggestions. There is also a referee that calls the fouls and the national anthem is even played before each match. The audience then votes for the winners. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The Michael Clem Trio of Five will perform at 8 p.m. at The Tin Pan, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. For over 25 years, Clem has been playing bass, singing and writing songs for the national touring act he co-founded, Eddie from Ohio. Since 2008, with the band slowing down, Clem moved to Charlottesville where he established a foothold in its musical scene, from session work to bluegrass gigs to forming his own acoustic trio. Ten years after Clem’s first solo album, he released “Fifty Clementines.” To showcase these songs and many others, Clem assembled the Michael Clem Trio of Five featuring Rusty Speidel (SGGL) on guitar, Matty Metcalfe (The Legwarmers) on keys, Thomas Gunn (The Pollocks) on bass, and Paul Rosner (Trees On Fire) on drums. The Autism Society of Central Virginia will present its 16th annual 5K Run/Walk for Autism at 8 a.m. at the Innsbrook Pavilion. This family-friendly event includes entertainment, food, exhibitors and a Kid’s Fun Zone. The 5K Run/Walk is one of ASCV’s primary sources of income, raising over $136,000 last year. Gallmeyer Farms will host a Memorial Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Berry Patch, 3622 Darbytown Ct. in Varina. Highlights include fresh local strawberries (pick your own or pre-picked), live music from Danny Kensy Trio and Cobalt Whiskey, food and craft vendors, free hay rides, pony rides ($5) and more. The 10th Annual American Legion Post 242 & Battlefield Post 144 Sandston Memorial Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. at Seven Pines Elementary School on Beulah Road and proceed down Williamsburg Road through Sandston to Confederate Avenue. It will be preceded at noon by a veteran’s recognition ceremony at Seven Pines National Cemetery. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will offer free admission for military personnel and first responders and their dependents with valid ID from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone else in the party (non-dependents) will receive half-price admission. For details, visit www.lewisginter.org.


Richmond National Battlefield Park, in cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, will sponsor a Memorial Day program and wreath-laying ceremony to honor and remember those who died in service of the nation, particularly soldiers and sailors from the Civil War.  The annual event will take place at noon at Fort Harrison National Cemetery, 8620 Varina Rd.   This year’s keynote speaker is Marci L. Posey, a service-disabled veteran who proudly served in the 42nd Infantry Division, New York Army National Guard, and the U.S. Air Force. Following her talk, a wreath will be laid at the grave of Private George A. Buchanan, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Fort Harrison. Special music will be provided by the Varina Community Choir.  Additionally, volunteers from Memorial Day Flowers will attend to distribute flowers that visitors can place at headstones.
