Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will offer special activities for Mother’s Day weekend, May 11-13. The weekend kicks off May 11 with National Public Gardens Day – enjoy a drop-in tour of the historic Bloemendaal House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be activities in the Children’s Garden including “make-and-takes” for mom (cards and a tissue paper flower), raffle prizes and A Million Blooms. The weekend will conclude with a Mother’s Day concert on May 13 featuring the smooth jazz sounds of Glennroy Bailey from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs; no outside food or beverage permitted. The Short Pump Players at Godwin High School will present “The Drowsy Chaperone” at 7 p.m. May 11 and at 2 p.m. May 12 in the school auditorium, 2101 Pump Rd. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, “The Drowsy Chaperone” is a meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. Lavender Fields Herb Farm, 11300 Winfrey Rd. in Glen Allen, will present its annual Spring Herb Faire & Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11-12. Shop from over 200 varieties of certified organic herb and vegetable plants. There will also be free tours, demonstrations and classes, and a special Mother’s Day giveaway. On Saturday, Chick-fil-A and Gelati Celesti will be at the farm and kid’s activities will be offered, including Bob the Beekeeper and Henrico Fire trucks. Rain or shine. The Henrico Theatre Company will present “Oklahoma” May 11-13 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, “Oklahoma” is set in a western Indian territory just after the turn of the century. The high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. All performances are at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees which are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. The show ends May 20. Innsbrook After Hours will open its 33rd year with country music star Chase Rice at the SERVPRO of Richmond Pavilion. The Tar Heel State native has inked a new label deal with Broken Bow Records and released his sophomore album, “Lambs & Lions,” in November. Rice’s debut album “Ignite the Night” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and No. 3 on the all-genre chart, and produced a pair of Top 5 hits, the Platinum-certified "Ready Set Roll" and “Gonna Wanna Tonight.” Special guest TBA. Varina Library will show the premiere episode of Masterpiece on PBS’ upcoming adaptation of “Little Women” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this three-part adaptation from the award-winning creator of Call the Midwife, Cranford, and Upstairs Downstairs will be directed by Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen, My Mad Fat Diary). “Little Women” was one of the 100 titles selected for The Great American Read on PBS. The VCU Health Cap2Cap, the 13th annual bike ride fundraiser organized by the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, will start and finish at the historic Charles City Courthouse, 10780 Courthouse Rd. The courses offered are Century (100 miles), Half Century (50 miles), Quarter Century (25 miles) and Fun Ride (15 miles). All proceeds from the event support the Foundation's goals of continuing to enhance, promote and advocate for the Virginia Capital Trail. The Divine Destiny Step Team of Fairfield Middle School will host its 4th annual Lupus Awareness Step Showcase at 3 p.m. at the school, 5121 Nine Mile Rd. There will be step teams, dance teams and cheer teams from Henrico County Public Schools, Richmond Public Schools and Woodbridge, Va. There will also be vendors selling last-minute Mother’s Day gifts and food. A portion of the proceeds will support the Lupus Foundation of America and Team Linda’s Angels for the Walk to End Lupus in Richmond Oct. 13. Gallmeyer Farms will host a Mother’s Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Berry Patch, 3622 Darbytown Ct. A free coloring station will be set up for kids to make mom a Mother’s Day card. There will also be local strawberries for sale (pre-picked or pick-your-own), spring vegetables, craft vendors and local businesses, hay rides, pony rides ($5), food vendors and more.
