The Royal Virginians, led by Joe Enroughty, will perform music of the Big Band era at 7 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre in Highland Springs. The following Henrico County YMCAs will celebrate Healthy Kids Day: Tuckahoe Family YMCA – Apr. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Shady Grove Family YMCA – Apr. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Chickahominy Family YMCA – Apr. 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, games, prizes, healthy food and more. Celebrate Earth Day and learn about the Virginia Big Tree project at Varina Library from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program will begin with a brief introduction to the trees of Virginia and the idea of citizen science and continue outside where the group will identify and measure a couple of the library’s own big trees. Meadow Farm will present Sheep to Shawl from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Spring is here and it’s time to shear the sheep. Clothos Handspinners will demonstrate, teach and offer you a chance to try your hand at processing wool – carding, spinning, weaving and dyeing. Celebrate Earth Day at The Pad at West Broad Village from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Imprint, the charitable arm of Cobb Technologies, will be collecting new and gently used children’s outerwear and books. TFC Recycling will accept cans, paper, plastic and aluminum for recycling. The Tech for Troops Project will collect desk and laptop computers, servers, routers, phones, stereos, wires and other miscellaneous electronics. The Richmond Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis walk will start at 3 p.m. in Innsbrook’s North Shore Commons, 4951 Lake Brook Dr. Funds raised benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and their research into better treatments, and ultimately cures, for inflammatory bowel diseases. Walkerton Tavern, 2892 Mountain Rd., will present “Remembering the Great War: Aviation” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Of the four air war missions – fighter, bomber, reconnaissance and airlift – all but airlift were defined and in place by the end of World War I. This war defined the aviation mission but also helped to create the somewhat romanticized image of the combat pilot that prevails to this day. The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will look for Pink Lady’s Slippers in Dorey Park at 2:45 p.m. In addition to these native orchids, the group will have an opportunity to identify and learn about many other native plants that grow in the park. Anyone with an interest in native landscape is welcome, from novice to expert. The approximately two-hour walk is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.
