Mountainfilm on Tour will be at the Henrico Theatre from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mountainfilm is a dynamic organization and festival of films about people, stories and ideas that celebrate indomitable spirit. The mission of Mountainfilm is to educate and inspire audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, and environments worth preserving. The 2018 VaHomeschoolers Conference and Resource Fair – Kaleidoscope of Stories – will be held Mar. 23-24 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Melissa Wiley, author, homeschooler, blogger and inspirational speaker, will give the keynote address, “Tidal Homeschooling: The Ebb and Flow of Joyful Learning.” Virginia resident, published author, singer/songwriter and motivational speaker Justin Young will be the featured speaker. There will also be a variety of engaging exhibitors, a used resource sale, Talent Night, ice cream social, workshops and family activities. Twin Hickory Library will hold a book sale from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mar. 23 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mar. 24. A large variety of books, including children’s books, will be on sale at bargain prices. Threads’ Spring/Summer Children’s Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mar. 23 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mar. 24-25 at Macy’s at Regency Mall. Items for sale include clothing (maternity and sizes newborn to junior/teen), baby gear and equipment, toys and books. Cash, check and credit cards accepted. Consignors and volunteers shop early. The 11th annual Strike Out Cancer Bowling Challenge will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bowl America Short Pump, 4400 Pouncey Tract Rd. All ages and skill levels will come together in fellowship, mentorship and friendly competition to play three games of nine-pin, no tap bowling – all to benefit the American Cancer Society. There will be prizes, a silent auction, raffles, bake sales, spin the wheel and more. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids and includes three games and shoe rental. H&R Block in Laburnum Square Shopping Center, 4754 Finlay St., will host a free shredding event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each participant is allowed one box of personal information to be shredded. Henrico Schools’ Big Blue Bus will be parked at New Bridge Learning Center, 5915 Nine Mile Rd., from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instead of a yard sale, the Department of Family and Community Engagement will have a yard giveaway – there will be bins of free clothing, including winter coats, soap courtesy of Whole Foods, free books for all ages, and parent information on various school topics. Historic sites in Henrico County will offer visitors a “passport” to travel back in time from noon to 4 p.m. Mar. 24-25. Visitors are invited to discover the area’s treasures, spanning 400 years of fascinating history. This is a special opportunity as some of these sites are not usually open on a regular basis. Participating sites include: Clarke-Palmore House Museum, 904 McCoul St.; Courtney Road Gas Station, 3401 Mountain Rd.; Dabbs House Museum, 3812 Nine Mile Rd.; Meadow Farm Museum, 3400 Mountain Rd.; Virginia Randolph Museum, 2175 Mountain Rd.; and Walkerton Tavern, 2892 Mountain Rd. The Richmond Gun Show will be held at the Richmond Raceway Complex from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mar. 24 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mar. 25. More than 750 tables will be selling, buying and trading guns, shotguns, rifles, muskets, carbines, pistols and more. There will also be swords, knives, decoys, hunting supplies, ammo, books, coins, early Indian and western Americana, war relics and more. Henrico County Public Schools’ fifth annual spring arts festival returns Mar. 24-25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Freeman High School, 8701 Three Chopt Rd. The Henrico ARTS (Artists, Residents, Teachers and Students) Festival features interactive stations, activities sponsored by local community partners and cultural centers, and displays of fine art from every school in the division.
