Henrico County Recreation and Parks’ Adventure Series returns to the county Administrative Board Room at 4301 E. Parham Rd. from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The topic will be “Life in the Trees.” Join Jocelyn Lohse and her husband Scott Ross on a journey exploring the world of climbing trees. From the early days of recreational tree climbing to tree climbing world championships and tree top camping, this program will help you see these giants as an opportunity for adventure and a resource worth protecting. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen’s 2nd Stage season continues with “An Evening of Portuguese Blues” featuring Fado Nosso at 7 p.m. Fado Nosso is Richmond's first and only Fado ensemble. Fado is an urban folk music from Portugal that the ensemble expertly fuses with classical, jazz and Latin music elements. The Richmond Home + Garden Show returns to the Richmond Raceway Complex from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mar. 2, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mar. 3 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mar. 4. Hundreds of experts in remodeling, kitchen and bath, gardening, outdoor spaces and more will be gathered under one roof. There will be demonstrations, celebrity guests and speakers on the Fresh Ideas Stage, the Outdoor Oasis, Backyard Bar, and Barkitecture Village, which features eight Doggie Dream Houses that were donated by the Henrico Humane Society. CharacterWorks, a non-profit after-school theater arts program, will present “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” Mar. 2-11 at The Steward School, 11600 Gayton Rd. This surprisingly contemporary take on the classic fairytale features Ella, who lives in the care of her wicked, self-absorbed stepmother Madame and Madame’s two daughters. The Henrico County Department of Community Revitalization will present a free workshop on maintaining and repairing a wood deck and preparing a yard for spring. Experts will offer tips for creating a sustainable lawn and keeping shrubs and other plantings healthy. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Community Room at the Eastern Henrico Government Center, 3820 Nine Mile Road. Exhibits, hands-on demonstrations and refreshments will be included. The session will conclude a workshop series that began in October to help residents maintain and improve their homes. ComedySportz Richmond, 8906-H W. Broad St., will present its second sensory-friendly performance at 3 p.m. This performance is like CSZ’s weekly shows – where two teams of improvisors go head-to-head for points and laughs – but is designed to be more accessible for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. Features include relaxed house rules, designated break spaces, limited crowds and spaced out seating, low lighting so patrons can move around throughout the performance, reduction of sound and a glow stick raised when a loud noise is coming, and a pre-visit social story available online. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present a St. Patrick’s Day celebration featuring traditional Irish ensemble Danú at 7:30 p.m. Their high-energy performances are a mix of ancient Irish music and new repertoire. The Henrico County Historical Society will meet from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Belmont Recreation Center, 1600 Hilliard Rd. The speaker will be Ida Annette Minor Ward, author of the popular cookbook “Switchin in Da Kitchen with Mama ‘Nem.” The book is a collection of preferred recipes, crafts and household ideas submitted by friends, family members and neighbors as well as culinary treasures from Ward’s kitchen.
