The Richmond Boat Show will take place Feb. 16-18 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Boats on display from 18 dealers include fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats, motor yachts and more. Additional exhibits include boat lifts, floating docks, marine electronics, water sports and safety equipment. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about marinas, financing, insurance, maintenance, repair and safety. Hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 18. Admission is $10 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Enter through Gate 4. Dorey Recreation Center, 2999 Darbytown Rd., will present “Down on the Dairy Farm” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Help churn butter and slather it on fresh bread to eat. Eastern Henrico Recreation Center will host Legendary Dance Night for ages 50+ from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dance the night away honoring music legends Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Prince, and Motown’s greatest entertainers. Varina Library and Twin Hickory Library will present “Citizen Science: The Great Backyard Bird Count” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Groups at both locations will first gather in the Meeting Room for a brief introduction to bird watching and the idea of Citizen Science and will then go outside for a brief walk and to count birds. Henrico Recreation and Parks will hold a job fair for Camp Henrico 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave. A variety of summer camp jobs are available – no nights or weekends. Spend the summer leading kids in games, arts and crafts, sports, nature activities and more. Varina Library will host Austen Fest at 10 a.m. Guest speaker Amy Stallings will present “Ponds, Pigs and Pointers: Adapting Pride & Prejudice for the Screen,” a look at how a famous novel gets made into an award-winning, blockbuster film. Stallings is an adjunct professor of American History at William & Mary, a program interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, and the coordinator for the Southeastern Virginia Region of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JANSA). The Henrico County Police Division will provide rabies vaccines for dogs and cats from 9 a.m. to noon at the Henrico County Government Center, 4301 E. Parham Road. Pet owners must register and pay at the cashier’s office in the Administration Building before seeing a veterinarian on the first level of the adjacent parking deck. Each vaccine costs $10 and must be paid in cash. A rabies tag and certificate of inoculation are included. Pets from all localities are welcome. Cats must be in carriers. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen will host a Meet the Artists Reception from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the new exhibit “Three Friends Painting.” The exhibit, on display Feb. 1-28 in the Slantwall Gallery, will feature the original pastel and watercolor artwork of Terry Atkinson, Jean Kleeman and Carolyn Velletri. The University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts will present violinist Gil Shaham and pianist Akira Eguchi at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. The evening’s program includes Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro; Prokofiev’s 5 Melodies, Op. 3; Franck’s, Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano; Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E Major for Solo Violin; Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso; and Dorman’s Nigunim.
