FEB 21Strange’s Florist and Garden Center, 12111 West Broad Street, will host the Virginia Orchid Society’s 14th Annual Orchid Show Feb. 21-23. In addition to the hundreds of orchids on display and for sale, the weekend will feature free workshops and lectures, guided tours, an orchid art exhibit and sale, children’s activities, vendors and free orchid repotting. Hours are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 21, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 22 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23. The event is free and open to the public. The movie “The Lion King” (2019, PG, 118 minutes) will play at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road. After witnessing the murder of his father, Simba, a young lion prince, flees his kingdom. He grows up in a distant land but returns to claim his throne and defeat his evil uncle, Scar. The workshop “Reconstructing Family: Post-Emancipation Records at the Library of Virginia” will take place at Sandston Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The presentation will provide an overview of records created from 1865 to 1880 in the aftermath of the Civil War and how they may be used to find information on individuals. Records include the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, the population schedule of the 1870 federal census, voting records, personal property tax records, and African American church records and newspapers. The 17th annual Richmond Kids Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Richmond Raceway. The expo provides parents with an engaging trade show atmosphere while kids enjoy a day of fun and entertainment in a safe indoor environment. Crossroads Art Center, 2016 Staples Mill Road, will host a Gallery Talk with Fletcher/Copenhaver Fine Art from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Joel Fletcher and John Copenhaver formed Fletcher/Copenhaver Fine Art in 1993, specializing in American and European fine art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
